Boost Athletics

Name: Nate Werlin

Age: 26

Occupation: Web Entrepreneur

Weight: before 195/ After 180

Height: 5'11

Background: I just recently moved to the Bay Area from New York where I worked in finance. My work hours were long and inconsistent. All I found time for was running. That was fine, but most of my muscle mass was atrophying and the running wasn't enough to keep the post college weight off. I still played a good amount of sports and I needed, and wanted, to be in better shape. I noticed the drop-off in conditioning and strength from my college days and wanted to get back in shape. Once I moved to the Bay Area, I found Boost Athletics and everything has changed for me. I am in better shape now at 26 than I was when I was playing collegiate sports.

Time it took to reach my goal: 2 Months

Lesson learned: I was wasting time going to gyms that were packed with machines. The machines took forever, which lowered the intensity to use and never gave me the results I was looking for. Boost focuses on barbell, dumbbell, kettlebell and bodyweight movements in high intensity workouts that mimic real world fitness. I finally learned what true fitness is and it isn't the Thigh-master!

The Gain: Keep the workouts intense and mix it up. Try to never do the same workout except to test your progress.

Secret weapon: Squatting. I never squatted before and after doing so with Boost, it changed everything. My balance, core strength, power, leg strength and flexibility have all improved and this really shows when I play sports.

Tips for others: Stop wasting your time on machines and call Boost Athletics! Fitness will finally make sense.

The reward: I feel better than I ever have.. I am physically more capable than ever before and never shy away from any physical challenge. I finally enjoy working out and wish I had started doing this years ago. I am in the best shape of my life.

Sadie

Name: Sadie Lewis

Age: 32

Occupation: Hairstylist

Weight: before 154/ After 128

Height: 5’3

Background: I am a full time hairstylist, with a 22 month old at home, and a husband who has joined me in my quest to stay healthy by joining my gym.

Time it took to reach my goal: 4 months

Lesson learned: I’ve learned to be consistent with my workouts and my nutrition. I realized they go hand in hand. You can't have one without the other and expect to get the results you truly want.

The Gain: I have gained strength and I am able to fit into smaller size clothes. I use to have chronic back pain, given my scoliosis, but now I am enjoying pain-free days. I love watching my friends and families' reactions to my shrinking frame, and blushing from my husband's admiration. I am stronger, more secure with myself, and confident about buying clothes without trying them on.
Secret weapon: First, I got up off the couch. Then I found the perfect gym, Anytime Fitness in Santa Rosa where I found people who took my goals as seriously as I did. Finally, I hired my personal trainer, Heather, who keeps me on track with my nutrition while changing up my cardio and resistance routines. This way I never get bored. This is when my weight really started to fall off.

Tips for others: Be active. Walk as much as you can. It helps if you park farther away from the store, this way you are forced to walk. Get a juicer. Replace a snack in the afternoon with freshly juiced fruits and veggies. I keep an orange or an apple in my car in case I get hungry or am running low on energy. I also keep a bottle of water on me at all times.
The reward: Freedom inside my own skin and feeling good about myself!
